Believed to have originally been built early in the 1840s, the Fox and Hounds at Thurston has always been rooted in country pub tradition. Soon after opening came the nearby railway station and the expansion of the village placed the pub centrally in village life. Today it is very much a freehouse with its own identity and we strive to offer the same simple values of good cellarmanship and a friendly welcome that were very much at the heart of its origin. Apart from in our accomodation, we are a pet friendly pub and welcome frequent canine 'visitors' in either bar.

As well as regular connections to Ipswich and Cambridge, there are frequent trains into London and the Eastern region. Whether on business, or needing a 'base' from which to explore East Anglia, or just looking for a relaxing stay, there is a wealth of things to do in the Thurston area.

Since taking over as landlord and lady, Bernie and Mandy Ruffles have dedicated themselves to ensuring the Fox and Hounds is renowned for its hospitality and good, honest service.

Our Beer

Good beer is about choice and consistency and we make every effort to ensure our customers have both. Our Cask Marque accreditation is an indication of the quality we offer and we have been listed in the Good Beer Guide since 2003.
